Plano. Our Home, Your Home
There’s a reason Plano is the fourth largest city in the Dallas metro area. With 17 percent growth between 2000 and 2010, it’s clear people and businesses are moving to our exceptional community. Premier public and private schools, low crime and affordable homes provide a great environment to raise a family. Yet there’s more, much more, to our city than this. Anchored by a diverse population and business base, Plano epitomizes community. Resident of multiple cultures, ages and backgrounds call the city their home.
Plano’s Story is Simply Remarkable.
Once a small, quiet farming community of a few thousand people, Plano transformed into a city well known across the country for our people, places, progress and prosperity. Today, Plano is home to 269,000 residents, several Fortune 1,000 companies and more than 10,000 businesses. We’re the ninth largest city in Texas and the fourth largest city in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Quickly, Plano emerged as a premier place to live, work and play.
Plano’s unique and impressive story is spreading across America through our growing list of accolades.

The city has proven to be an excellent place for businesses to flourish and thrive. The proof is in the numerous corporations with headquarters in Plano, including JCPenney, Alliance Data Systems, Rent-a-Center, Cinemark Holdings, Dr Pepper Snapple Group and Denbury Resources. Plano also has a stout roster of regional and North American offices including: Ericcson, Intel Security, Bank of America Home Loans, Frito-Lay, PizzaHut/Yum Restaurants International, Dell Services, HP Enterprise Services, PepsiCo, Cigna and many others. Toyota North American recently announced it was moving to Plano from Torrance, California and FedEx Office & Print Services will also soon call Plano “home”.
Unlike other affluent locations, Plano is extremely affordable. Our citizens enjoy no state income tax and compared to most metropolitan areas, Plano’s property taxes and housing prices are low. Our schools that comprise the Plano Independent School District are nationally recognized and provide an education comparable in quality to many top private schools.
All that being said, Plano’s greatest attribute is our people and our diversity. Not only are Plano residents highly educated, young, and ethically diverse, they understand the importance of volunteerism. Plano’s diversity spans across cultures. Nearly 42 percent are non-Caucasian. Most than 90 languages are spoken in our schools. You can travel around the city and see our citizens active in the more than 84 parks and 4,000 acres of green space, playing all sports, from baseball and soccer to cricket and lacrosse.
We are proud of our past and what we have become. We’re even more excited about where we are going. Our citizens embrace the true spirit of the community. And that’s what makes Plano the City of Excellence. ~Plano Chamber Relocation Guide, Contributed by City of Plano
